They also require space for their food and water bowl. It’s generally recommended that a hutch should be four times the size of the rabbit.
There are various types of materials you can get your hutch made in. Experts would often recommend a hutch made with a timber frame that contains boarding in between – this is to prevent your rabbits nibbling and gnawing at the timber. Furthermore, this type of hutch often has an interior that can be lined, which is very good for insulation purposes.
You can have a hutch that is painted on the outside or has a finish of safe varnish, however, the inside should not be painted or varnished, as not to risk it being unsafe for your rabbit.
You must be able to get to your rabbit whenever you need to do so. Therefore, the hutch doors must be well made, with the hinges and catches good quality and fitted well.
